Thank you to Nottinghamshire County Council who signed the charter on 17^th August 2016 providing protection for their 7,500 employees.

Nottinghamshire County Council Leader, Cllr Alan Rhodes, said:
“Nottinghamshire County Council is pleased to be signing the Dying to Work charter. We are committed to treating all our employees fairly and with dignity. This is particularly important for those facing the difficult challenges a diagnosis of terminal illness brings. We are working closely with our recognised trades unions locally to build on our existing approach and to translate the principles of the charter into practical management guidance and support for employees. This will ensure that their personal choices regarding work are recognised and respected at this difficult time.”

Thank you to Central College Nottingham who signed the charter on 19^th June 2016 providing protection for their 854 employees.

We recognise how important is it to provide security of work and peace of mind to our employees and to work with them to agree working arrangements which are both manageable and beneficial. Thank you to Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council who signed the charter on 15^th June 2016 providing protection for their 10,227 employees.

Sandwell Council Leader, Cllr Steve Eling, said:
“We recognise that employees with terminal illnesses require support and understanding, and not the additional stress and worry about possibly losing their job. We will set out to support terminally-ill employees following their diagnosis and to recognise that safe and reasonable work can maintain dignity and offer a valuable distraction. Sandwell Council has a long history of supporting employees diagnosed with terminal illness, but has never previously backed-up this stance by having a formal council rule on this matter.”

“As soon as I heard of Jacci’s case story I was horrified there were still employers who would act in this manner and that employees had such little protection.
